I have never tracked my car, or any car in the first place. But if I did, I would imagine it would waste more time trying to regather the car and get it back on track, then just taking a smarter turn in the first place. Every racing simulator I've used has you losing more time the crazier you drive. So if you're taking corners faster than you should, you spend more time slowing the car down to gain control (and rpm range is probably not desired either) than if you just let off the gas and picked it back up at the apex of the turn. Now if you lost traction as a result of bald tires, or blow out, or some other reason, its not going to matter if you took it fast or slow. There is no point in sliding the car, you lose time doing that vs keeping the tires under you.
